Mitey works. Here's How.

Mitey is for Years 1-8 and is an approach to embedding mental health education across the whole school.  It is not prescriptive. Mitey is designed to be flexible and wide enough in scope to suit each unique school setting. With the support of a Mitey coach, schools can easily integrate mental health education into everyday planning.

What you can expect

When a school partners with Mitey, the first step is a visit from one of our coaches. All our coaches work with schools free of charge.

Mitey's coaches are an incredible resource for schools, both in and out of the classroom, and will support you in the areas where you need it most. From curriculum to helping with community engagement to governance and policy advice to staff wellbeing strategies, a Mitey coach is your personal guide to embedding mental health education into teaching and learning.

Complete Mitey Review Tool

Coaches begin by working with senior management to assess a school’s approach to wellbeing and develop a plan of action. To do this they use Mitey's Wellbeing Review Tool – a questionnaire - which has been developed for Mitey by the University of Auckland.

Develop a plan of action

Mitey's coaches use a shared planning approach to develop a plan of action that is tailored to a school's needs and strengths.

A high level of ongoing support

Once a school has identified a plan of action with Mitey, a coach stays with the school to implement Mitey both inside and outside the classroom, providing both support and professional development.

In the classroom

Developed by New Zealand teachers and the University of Auckland, Mitey is a stepped progression of learning outcomes for mental health education, for Years 1-8, aligned to the NZ Curriculum. Teachers are fully supported with Mitey Units of Work that can be integrated across the curriculum and adapted to a school's needs.
